Once a report is verified, the order desk sends it to the patient as a secure SMS link — the PDF, on their own phone, wherever they are. It is the only thing in here the patient experiences directly, and it deletes an entire trip: no second visit, no queue to collect a printout, no "come back Tuesday". A lab that does this gets recommended by name.

Pathology, Haematology and Hormone type values; X-Ray and Ultrasound write reports; ECG attaches a trace. Each opens straight onto the samples that are theirs, so nobody scrolls past four departments to find their own three.

A value is typed against the range for that patient’s own age and sex — not one column printed on a chart taped above the bench, and not a range for an adult man applied to a nine-year-old girl because that is what the form had room for.

X-Ray and Ultrasound reports start from a stored form of words rather than an empty box at the end of a long shift. The app refuses to save one without an impression, because a report with findings and no conclusion is precisely the one a referring doctor telephones about.

The trace is the report. Nobody retypes numbers that already exist on paper, and nobody transcribes one wrongly at half past nine.

The consultant reads what each bench entered, telephones the critical values, and signs each report off. Making the call part of the queue is what turns "somebody should ring them" into a step that has either happened or not — and nothing is sent to a patient before it is signed.
